The World Bank – State Bank of India (WB-SBI) Technical Assistance (TA) Program Sustainable Partnership for Rooftop Solar Acceleration in Bharat (SUPRABHA) organised a workshop on ‘Upcoming Business Models in Rooftop Solar Sector and Its Concurrent Impact on Model New Metering Regulations’ on July 16, 2018 at New Delhi. The workshop saw participation from the Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Distribution Licensees (DISCOMs), sector experts, and other relevant stakeholders. Mr. Gopal Krishan Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, delivered the inaugural address. He highlighted the need to create a robust policy, regulatory, and implementation framework for large scale deployment of grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (GRPV) and achieve targets. He also highlighted key steps and measures taken by the MNRE to facilitate both the DISCOMs and other stakeholders. Dr. Sushanta Chatterjee, Jt. Chief Regulatory Affairs, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, discussed and opined on various issues/challenges raised during the workshop. The TA Program team presented on gap assessment in the existing Model Regulations, key learning from international experience, proposed business models and their commercial settlement and proposed changes in the regulation. Mr. Ajit Pandit, highlighted proposed alterations in the model regulatory framework. Mr. Rajiv Shukla presented on the need of unified web portal to facilitate smooth implementation of GRPV. The TA Program also presented the need and possibility of demand aggregation to scale up GRPV installations.

Idam is one of the key implementation partner of EY led consortium providing technical assistance to 14 states under the MNRE-WB-SBI GRPV TA Program.
